Helbling Reisen x Rovos Rail Promotional Video
Helbling Reisen · Cape Town Station & aboard Rovos Rail, South Africa · 2025
Helbling Reisen, a Swiss travel company, commissioned Visio Productions to film a promotional video for their signature Rovos Rail journey - a 3,400-kilometre, 16-day rail route from Walvis Bay in Namibia to Cape Town, taking in Etosha National Park, the dunes of Sossusvlei, the Fish River Canyon, and the Karoo. It was the third year Helbling Reisen has run this itinerary with Rovos Rail, and the video was built to help sell the next departure.
Filming took place on location aboard and around the Rovos Rail train at Cape Town Station, coordinated to work with the train's own schedule as it repositioned into the station through the morning - giving Visio a window to capture moving-train shots alongside the platform setups. Michael Mettler, owner and managing director of Helbling Reisen, presents to camera in German throughout, introducing the journey and the experience on board. Swiss television presenter and Africa travel expert Nik Hartmann also features, joining the trip from Walvis Bay to Cape Town.
The finished video moves between Michael's on-camera narration and footage of the train, its crew, and the route, giving prospective travellers a clear sense of both the itinerary and the onboard experience - the nostalgic charm, personal service, and comfort Rovos Rail is known for.
“We had the pleasure of working with Visio Productions on a tourism commercial. Over the course of five hours, we filmed on board the Rovos Rail in Cape Town. The preparation, execution, and outcome were excellent. I can highly recommend Carina and her team.”
