Covid-19 decimated the entertainment industry, leaving performing artists with the near-insurmountable task of making ends meet without the ability to perform live. The Art of Survival documents how South African performing artists adapted, persisted, and found new creative paths through the pandemic.
The film features interviews with artists including Megan Carelse, Stuart Taylor, Larry Soffer, and Kwanele Finch Thusi, filmed across locations in Cape Town and Johannesburg, and premiered on Showmax.
“When Cyril said 'My Fellow South Africans', it was pretty much over. The next day within 4 hours I lost all of my jobs.”
